The Phasepoint 4D Radar is a sophisticated radar system designed to provide detailed and accurate information about the environment surrounding it. The term "4D" refers to the system's ability to measure three spatial dimensions (xyz) along with the fourth dimension of speed.
The Phasepoint 4D Radar likely incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as PMCW (Phase-Modulated Continuous Wave) for improved target detection and resolution. PMCW technology offers advantages over traditional FMCW (Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave) radar systems, including better static target detection, reduced sidelobe clutter, and enhanced dynamic range. This makes the Phasepoint 4D Radar a potent solution for applications that demand high accuracy, reliability, and detailed environmental awareness.
Phasepoint 4D Radar specializes in creating advanced 4D PMCW radars, offering high-resolution tracking for various uses. We also provide reference designs for integrating Uhnder PMCW chips into products, enhancing the development of radar-based solutions. Additionally, Phasepoint delivers system solutions that combine our radars with other sensors like cameras and lidars, creating a more accurate and reliable perception system for vehicles and other applications.
FMCW technology essentially works by measuring the frequency difference between transmitted and received signals to detect targets. However, this method faces two main issues: 1) In the process of detecting static multiple targets, the sidelobes of multiple targets spread into each other, leading to a high false alarm rate; 2) During signal processing, high sidelobes can mask weak targets, significantly reducing the radar's dynamic range, meaning it struggles to detect both strong and weak targets simultaneously. In contrast, PMCW radar uses high-speed ADC to directly measure the delay between transmitted and received signals and employs phase-coded modulation waveforms to greatly reduce sidelobes. This fundamentally solves the issues of static target detection in FMCW radars. Therefore, PMCW radar offers significant advantages over FMCW in terms of accuracy, lower false alarms, and a larger dynamic range.
The front radar product PAF101, ready for vehicle integration, has been sent to the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for testing and validation. Traffic radar samples are undergoing performance validation in non-automotive scenarios such as rail transport, container terminals, boats, and heavy machinery, with expectations to be deployed within this year 2024.
